Mission Statement
At Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Primary School we aim to provide a working, caring and happy environment in which the potential of every child can be realised.
As a Catholic school we wish to promote in all our pupils such values as will make them caring, respectful and citizens. We believe in the dignity and worth of each individual and in the development of the whole person.
All members of staff share these values and work to ensure a pupil centred approach in which caring is a shared responsibility of all our staff. These values underpin and shape our school policies
General Aims
As our school is a Catholic school which compliments the Catholic home we, as teachers, working in co-operation with parents, governors and trustees, seek to foster the growth of the whole child. Our caring staff is dedicated to providing a sound education in an atmosphere where Christian values are clearly lived.
The primary stage of a child’s education is of vital importance in promoting the development of Christian Catholic moral values and ethos, an appreciation of our Irish cultural heritage and influence and the development of sound personal, social, vocational and aesthetic values. We, at Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Primary School would wish to engender in all our pupils such values as to make them caring, responsible citizens of the future.
It is the aim of the school to provide the children in its care with a stimulating learning environment where a spirit of enquiry and enthusiasm for learning is cultivated.
The Curriculum
It is the policy of our school that in accordance with its Catholic ethos and with the Northern Ireland Curriculum, a balanced and broadly based curriculum will be offered to all children.
We shall ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that the necessary resources, materials and personnel are available to the school for its implementation of the N.I. Curriculum.
Children will have opportunities to engage in active learning contexts across all areas of the curriculum to develop the cross-curricular skills of Communication, Using Mathematics and Using Information & Communications Technology. These experiences will have an explicit emphasis on the development of skills and capabilities for life-long learning and for operating effectively in society with particular emphasis on:
• Thinking, Problem-Solving & Decision Making
• Self Management
• Working with Others
• Managing Information
• Being Creative
Access to the Curriculum
Each child in Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Primary School is unique and equal to all others in dignity and rights regardless of intellectual ability, emotional, social or physical disability, gender or class. The management of the school will allocate resources to various areas on the basis of this principle. Staff will make particular efforts to encourage full integration between those with emotional, social and physical needs and the school body as a whole.
